Board game review & gameplay of: Castles of burgundy: dice game

All players cross off one of the 4 green spaces to start with. Each turn one player rolls the dice and keeps track of the time die and all players choose one coloured die and one number die.

One space of the choosen colour that is connected to another already filled in space will be numbered with the chosen number. Players will earn an additional bonus corresponding to the colour used.

Each time a player finishes an island of a particular colour, they score points. Depending on what round they are (timewise) they will get more or fewer points for this. When all spaces of a particular colour are filled in, they may claim the highest bonus for this. After this points are still rewarded, but fewer.

Bonusses can be used in the game, to change the colour or number of a die, to use both die combinations and to earn extra points in the end.

When all time spaces are crossed off, players calculate scores. When all yellow spaces are crossed off, their points will be doubled! Highest score wins the game.

+ This is one of the earlier roll and write games, which I like. I enjoy filling up my sheet and using the bonuses.

+ It's fun that you're able to play following different strategies. Trying to collect most points by closing islands, unlocking bonuses to use, or going for one colour.

+ The solomode is solid.

+ It's small to take with you and takes up little space.

- Sometimes you cannot use any die combination, you do get a small benefit instead, but it does bother me a bit when that happens.

- I sometimes find keeping scores a bit chaotic, could be me, but sometimes I'm not sure if I've already scored my closed islands.

De solomodus is erg leuk en zit goed in elkaar. De tijd wordt wat ingekort door de onderste twee vakjes af te kruisen van de drie jaren. Hierdoor verloopt het spel iets vloeiender. Je probeert je eigen score te verbeteren.

A copy of this game was provided to me by Ravensburger for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
