Gameplay
In paper dungeons each player explores the dungeon with 4 heroes of their own. These heroes will battle minions and end of round bosses!
Each round dice are thrown, from which each player selects 3 to use. They can be used to level up heroes, gathering items and exploring the dungeon, unlocking some nice powers!
After a round (3 turns in the first 2, 2 in the last) players can battle monsters if they have passed them while exploring the dungeon, or are there now. Each monster has a weakness for a certain hero and to defeat them players need to have leveled up their heroes enough.
After three turns players tally up scores, highest score wins the game
Thoughts
👍 I like how the designer tried to create a roll and write dungeon crawler and think they actually did a very nice job overall!
👍 I really like the versitality of the game. Each game is salted with special abilities, personal goals and communal goal cards.
👍 Each game starts with a different set-up of walls and also the monsters differ from game to game, giving a nice replayability to the game. There even is a story at the backs of these setup cards, which you can play in order to make it a campaign mode!
👍 It's fun to be trying different routes to victory each game again!
Solomode
The solo variant plays the same as a regular game with minor tweaks. You beat your own score, but if it's your first game you have nothing to compare it to. Would've been nice to add a little ranking.
A copy of this game was provided to me by Geronimo Games for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
