Gameplay
In K2, you and your fellow players embark on a hike of the second largest mountain in the world, the K2. You each start the game with a deck of cards and two hikers. You draw up to six and take turns playing three cards from your hand, allowing you either to hike or to gain oxigen. After your turn you draw back up to six (without discarding).
Spaces on the board indicate how much steps you need to enter them and how much oxigen you will either get OR spend. Besides this, there is also a weather condition to take into account that changes each day, sometimes costing you some more oxigen above 6000 ft.
At the side of the board is the 'score track', it keeps score as to how high your meeples have climbed. Climbing back down to safety is also part of this game!
After 18 days, marked by the weather conditions, the game ends and the one that has climbed the highest with both meeples, wins the game.
Thoughts
This game is incredibly easy to learn, but not simple at its core. And yet, it is not too much of a chesslike game. I always think games like that are special. Who doesn't like a game thats thaugt in less than 15 minutes?
The gameplay is solid and as mentioned simple. the board looks very cool with the mountain on the background. The theme is very well presented, because all you do is climbing and breathing, it really feels like I'm up that mountain!
If you like a mountainthemed game that's easy to teach and a lot of racing fun, K2 might be worth checking out!
A copy of this game was provided to me by Rebel Studio for the purpose of writing this review. My opinion however remains my own.
