Gameplay
This is a trick taking game in which players start with a hand of 11 cards and the trump is revealed. Players play tricks until they have one card remaining in their hands.
A trick consists of every player playing one card from their hand following suit is not necessary. First, the trump card will win, after this the highest suit to follow. Depending on which player wins, they get to take steps on the board in a particular direction. While doing so, they try to collect all gems from the board, before the third round is over.
While walking the board, if players ever leave the board, they get a foresttoken, making the board smaller. If there are no more forest tokens, they lose!
Thoughts
Fox in the forest is a fun 2 player cooperative trick taking game that is lovely illustrated. However, after a while you get to know how the game works, which I personally don’t really like, it takes away the tension. I can imagine this being a good game for a somewhat younger audience because of this.
👍 Games are quick and easy to teach, but still each game can be a puzzling challenge for the players.

➖ I do like the original fox in the forest better, was a bit more engaging to me. Also the game’s replayability is so so, after a while you know the game.
➖ Although the art is great, the theme is quite absent
