Gameplay

In galaxy trucker you and your fellow players do two things. 1. Build a space ship 2. Go on adventures with it!

1. build a space ship πŸš€

This is the first phase of the game and contains a real-time element by flipping sand timers. You build your ship from components that are located in the middle of the table and can either place them on your playerboard, place them in a saveslot for later so nobody can take it away from you or you can put it back in the middle of the table for everyone to grab.

When you finished your ship you quickly claim the best spot available with your shipmeeple. During this phase you are also able to peek at the adventure cards that will be used next phase.

2. Go on adventures with it! πŸš€πŸš€

Adventures are simulated by cards here and sometimes need some laserweapons, sometimes engines, crew or cargo holders. Because you could peek during the first phase, you could've adjusted your ship accordingly. By going on these adventures you earn points.

In the end of the game, when you've gone through all adventure cards, you calculate scores, highest score wins the game.

Thoughts

I didn't really know what to expect from this game when I first saw it. After playing it once on the app on my iPad, I played a game together with @cardboard.doc and I was totally amazed by it. I really like the fact that it has two phases. One chaotic building phase and one to see how you have done 😏.

Because of the timing element, the game can be a bit stressful for some. I didn't really bother about it, but I know of some who do.

This game is quite flexible to your needs, you can play with different ships, different amounts of time and there are also some small expansion possibilities.

If you like building a spaceship and testing it later, and if you like some time pressure, this game is a real fun one!
